UV-meter UVA skin care photo ageing skin cancer

The UV region covers the wavelength range 100-400 nm and is divided into three bands:

UV-A (315-400 nm)
UV-B (280-315 nm)
UV-C (100-280 nm)

As sunlight passes through the atmosphere, all UV-C and approximately 90% of UV-B radiation is
absorbed by ozone, water vapour, oxygen and carbon dioxide.

UV-A radiation is less affected by the atmosphere. Therefore, the UV radiation reaching the Earth's surface is largely composed of UV-A with a small UV-B component.

Photoaging:
Photoaging affects at least 35% of the American population alone and even more in other countries
where the Sun is more intense.Exposure to ultraviolet light, UVA or UVB, from sunlight accounts for 90%
of the symptoms of premature skin aging. Most of the photoaging effects occur by age 20.

Skin Cancer:
Melanoma is the most dangerous of all skin cancers.This year 7,800 Americans will die of it - many of them young and in the prime of life. About one-fourth of all cases occur in persons under the age of 40,
with women making up the majority.

Melanoma is now the most frequent cancer in women in the U.S., aged 25-29,
and is second only to breast cancer for those in the 30-34 age group.
